Accountants in Cheshire for ambitious, owner-managed limited companies

Accounting, tax and advisory in one joined-up service, and a plain guide to choosing the right firm.

We work with ambitious founders in Cheshire and across the UK. Your client manager knows your business, and tax planning comes as standard, so it's done before your year-end rather than after it.

Message us on WhatsApp, email or phone and you'll hear back the same day or the next. Call 0161 706 0855 to start.

Is your company one of Cheshire's growing ones?

About 3,550 of the roughly 33,600 businesses in Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester have 10 to 249 employees (ONS, 2026). If yours is one of them, you've probably got payroll, VAT and more than one director. A once-a-year set of accounts no longer tells you enough.

How to choose an accountant in Cheshire

Cheshire has no shortage of accountants, so a postcode won't narrow the field. Searches add words like independent, private or top, and none of those tells you how a firm will treat your company in March.

Ask direct questions instead. Who'll deal with my company, and will it be the same person next year? What will I hear between year-ends, and how will you plan my tax before the year-end?

A good accountant brings you advice before you have to ask for it. Ask what's included and how often you'll hear from them, so you know what the fee covers.

Ask who'll actually look after your company and what they're qualified to do, because that's the person who'll spot a problem or an opportunity. At Clearcrest every client manager is a chartered accountant, and our founders, Josh Buffin and Patrick Booth, trained and qualified at PwC. You get one dedicated client manager across accounting, tax and advisory, so you're not explaining your company to someone new each time.

Then check what other clients say, because reviews show how a firm behaves once you've signed up. Ours is 5.0 from 60+ Google reviews, and a few of them sit further down this page.

What a growing limited company gets from us

Bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, statutory accounts and corporation tax run on cloud software, so your figures stay current instead of catching up once a year.

Our advisory work adds regular management accounts, key performance indicator (KPI) reporting and cash flow forecasting. That shows you how the company is doing during the year.

If you run more than one company, our tax work covers group structuring. The holding companies guide is a good place to start. The services page has the full list.

We're a fully remote team, so meetings happen on a video call that fits your diary and nobody has to travel to an office.

How switching accountant works in Cheshire

Changing accountant is usually less work than owners expect. In the UK the new accountant normally contacts the old one for handover information, a step called professional clearance. The old firm then passes on the records it holds for the company.

Your part is usually small. You tell your current accountant you're moving and give your new one authority to deal with HMRC for the company. The new accountant normally takes it from there.

Timing often follows the year-end, because many owners prefer to switch before the accounts and tax return are prepared. A change can happen at any point in the year, though. If you'd like to talk it through, book a discovery call, with no obligation.

Is your company in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge or Knutsford?

We work with a lot of owner-managed companies in these three towns, so each has its own page with more about the area. Read the Wilmslow, Alderley Edge or Knutsford page.

Somewhere else in Cheshire? We work the same way across the county and the UK, so a discovery call is the best place to start.

Do I need an accountant for a limited company?

A limited company has to file annual accounts and a corporation tax return. Most founders find that easier with someone who does it every day. A company with one director and no staff can get by with light support.

Once there's payroll, VAT or a second company, there's more to get right, and most founders would rather spend that time on the business. Weighing up the move? Our guide to sole trader or limited company compares the two.

Is it worth paying for an accountant?

It is when the accountant changes your decisions and not only your paperwork. Tax planning before the year-end or a straight answer on how to pay yourself can each be worth more than the fee. The value comes from the advice as much as the filing.

How much should an accountant cost for a limited company?

The right fee depends on what your company actually needs. Staff, VAT, how many companies you run and whether you want management accounts all change the work.

We don't publish fees. Ask for a bespoke quote once you've told us what you need, with no obligation.
